Iron King - Episode 20

I can't believe I just finished episode 20 of the Japanese TV series "Iron King." That means I have just six episodes to go. I think I'm going to miss it, even though the premise of the episodes does tire me out a little.

There's a lot of Gentaro whipping the big old robots with a metallic whip he has, that, incidentally, has a miraculous reach. And once you've seen that 20 to 50 times, two or three times per episode, you've basically seen it. And Iron King getting the crap beat out of him ... until he finally prevails. In episode 20 the big monster Kabutoron was holding him upside down and pounding him up and down, his head smashing the ground ... must have been 10 or 15 times, while Gentaro prepared a bunch of gas balloons that would have something to do with Kabutoron being exploded.

Still, I'm going to miss it. Six episodes to go.

In episode 20, this is what I wanted to mention, there's an absurd amount of fighting in the snow. The Titanians from outer space have inhabited the bodies of some Japanese peasants. And they fight, fight, fight, minute after agonizing minute. Finally they become their Titanian selves.

One thing about the Titanians, these guys are scary, the scariest of Gentaro and Goro's opponents in the series. They are from outer space and have some greater abilities than the other enemies. They don't just have big monsters, they become the big monsters. The poison gas in the balloons was a pretty nasty looking power too. But fortunately they're dispatched in much the same way as the other monsters, through Gentaro and Iron King finally getting their act together and exploding them somehow.

Tru TV

I don't watch much TV, but I like to have it going when I'm eating. However long that takes. My normal channels are the news channels, except Fox, which I don't watch.

Lately I've been turning it over to Tru TV and alternating between it and Discovery. Tru TV has a lot of cops shows. Those are OK, but the real exciting stuff are the shows called "Most Shocking" and stuff like that. Where insane stuff is happening and they just happen to have it on video.

There are plenty of cop videos, like where the perp goes nuts during an arrest or trying to avoid an arrest. One thing I've noticed is that police car videos are hardly ever in the focus. It seems like they'd work on the video technology and clear things up a bit.

Some of the Most Shocking stuff is pretty shocking, like an Alzheimer's patient driving a car on the wrong side of a busy freeway. You know it's already past, and they don't seem to show videos where people got killed. But still you think, I'd hate to see that guy coming at me.

Today there was one where a lottery winner was cashing in his ticket at the convenience store and a truck came barreling through the wall, just missing the guy by about a foot. There was another convenience store -- gas station place -- where someone fell asleep and here they come, wiping out a gas pump, then into the store. Everyone looks terrified, which is exactly what you'd feel like.

As for the "Cops" show, the show that goes by that name, it has its moments. Some of it's pretty boring, since they're just documenting actual police shifts. They zero in on some guy, they get him arrested, but he's not arrested for much. One of the ones tonight, he had honked his horn in a residential area and that was disturbance of the peace. Hardly exciting enough to bother us with, but they did bash out his driver's side window. That's a high price to pay for honking your horn, but he really should have pulled over when they turned on the lights.

Mac vs. PC

I want to state this on the record as a true and accurate statement. I have never seen one of those Mac vs. PC commercials in its entirety. In fact I have never seen more than 10 seconds of one.

The very first one there was, of course at that time I had no idea that it was coming on. But as soon as I saw it -- instantly -- I recognized it for what it was going to be. The white, minimal background. The plaintive announcement of who they were. The supposedly trendy looking guy and the more slobular fellow. I immediately flipped the channel 10 seconds or less into it.

And ever since, as soon as I see the first second and can get to the remote that sucker goes off, or if there's no remote, I get my fingers in my ears, shut my eyes, and go "wahahahhahaaahaaaaa!," that, or whatever it takes to avoid seeing one of these commercials. Wow! I hate the concept. I hate everything about it.

So, I'm wondering. Are there any others out there who can say you have never seen one of these ads? Anyone who's only seen one or two? Anyone out there who is actually a fan of the Mac vs. PC commercials?
