Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

We all remember the song by Eurythmics, "Sweet Dreams." It's a great one. I've got it on my iTunes and am listening to it right now.

I've also got classical CD called "Sweet Dreams," put out on the CBS label. It is a variety of gentle stuff, like lullabies and various nocturnes. I've heard part of it but not all. I guess I have it on iTunes also. But it doesn't come around very often in the shuffle.

It's almost my bedtime and I love my sweet dreams. When they are sweet. A couple nights ago I was dreaming about scanning a bunch of documents and was all confused about double-siding them. That's no fun for a dream, since it's just repetitious and frustrating.

The best time about bedtime, assuming you can get to sleep easily, as I usually do, is that part of thinking and meditation while you're about to doze off. I use it to burrow in, trying anyway, to burrow into good spiritual places with God. It's just too bad that I haven't been able to have dreams to match, but it definitely is a highlight of my sleep experience!

Then 5:30 a.m. will come and my cell phone alarm will go off. My alarm tone is called "Voice of the Nature." I'd be nice if it was called "Sweet Dreams," although that would be a contradiction to the idea of an alarm.

May all your dreams be centered right in the middle of you. And may my dreams be that tonight.

Getting Plenty Of Sleep

I've tilted the balance back the way it should be as to getting sleep.

For a while I was getting 6 or 6½ hours approximately and not feeling the greatest. It's generally OK if I can get a nap midday but that hasn't always been possible.

So for the last couple nights I've made it 8 to 8½ hours and that's a lot better. Of course it gives me less time to actually live, but sleeping is also sort of like living. Who knows what good dreams really do for you? I think they do me good.

I love waking up through the night, glancing at the clock, then dosing right back off. Last night I woke up at 10 something, 12 something, and one other one I'll mention in a sec, 4 something, then at 5:30 when I got up. The other one to mention was around 1:46. And it seems like I woke up twice. So maybe I saw 1:46, then fell asleep, then woke up at 1:46 again. I don't know. I might be imagining it, but I remember wondering if the clock was working right.

That Extra Hour Of Sleep

I've been getting up faithfully at 5:30 every morning. So much so that it has become a habit.

Just then we turned the clocks back and now I'm waking up at 4:30, like the last few days in a row. A couple of days I got up, then found I was dead tired as the day wore on.

Today was the same thing. I woke up around 4:30 and thought I could get up, but it was going to be another long day, so I forced myself to fall back to sleep. And I think that extra hour, getting up at the new 5:30, was very valuable.

Last night was all run down. Taking the garbage out. Feeling like someone on the verge of falling over, etc. Naturally I got right to sleep at night.

Tonight I still have a few things to do. Then I'll go to bed. And hope I wake up at 5:30 instead of 4:30. The biggest blessing about waking up is that I'm generally successful at falling back to sleep.

Fatigue

I'm getting very fatigue, as the French would say. I exercised vigorously tonight, listening to Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart's "It's All Happening On The Inside" LP (MP3s on my iPod.)

That has to be one of the best albums ever for exercise. It keeps me going fast and furious.

That worked me up a nasty sweat. That's been a couple hours and I don't feel terribly damp. But now I need to go mow the yard, and that will do me in ... with sweat.

Then it will be almost time for bed!

Missing Some Sleep

I've had some extra duties in the last few days, meaning I'm not getting to bed at my normal time. And what does that make a person? Crabby.

I could be crabby and have felt a little crabby. But I'm so conscious of it that I'm able to modify it by willpower. So I'm not lashing out mercilessly. I'm keeping a level head.

There's something about the power of sleep. I guess we might say your head is like a library. But if kids come in and visit the library, and there isn't any adult supervision, they would scatter books all over the place.

Sleep is like the patient librarian, patiently putting the books among the stacks. Or let's say there's an evil librarian, surreptitiously piling the books on a cart and hauling them out to the trash, then making a note that the kids from Mark Twain Elementary stole them.

I Could Practically Fall Over

That's how tired I am. I need some way of winding myself back up, without having to sleep seven or eight hours. Because I can't lay down now. I have things to do.

Yesterday was a busy day, and I couldn't lay down. No napping allowed.
